The starting point for Sophie Delafontaine when she was working on Longchamp’s Fall/Winter 2022 season was a winter break in the Alps. With the same sensibility and thoughtfulness that’s made the French brand so well-loved though, she’s come up with plenty for warmer climes as well as individualistic styling.

For one thing, expect a wide and diverse range of mix-and-match separates – from lightweight, grunge-inflected plaid jackets and pants (inspired by the hyper-chic and woody ski resorts designed by Charlotte Perriand in the ’60s) to masculine houndstooth tailoring. Meanwhile, the footwear marries cool with SG-friendly practicality: colour-block sling-back pumps with graphic, silver-toned heels; and elegant knee-high rain boots with the brand’s horse-and-rider logo.

There’s a new must-know bag at Longchamp this season: the Box-Trot – the maison’s take on the perennially popular, ’70s-chic-made-modern-minimalist boxy shoulder bag. Clock the clean and sophisticated structured silhouette with rounded corners, which accommodates all of one’s going-out essentials neatly.

How has the French maison put its own twist on it? With a gold-toned medallion featuring its horse-and-rider motif adorning the flap, lending a vintage charm; and a firm, smooth calfskin finish that reminds one that this is foremost a house of leather. The Box-Trot comes in three key sizes – M, S and mini, the last of which boasts a fashionable top handle and removable strap – and those looking for a little fun can opt for youthful colours like lilac and vermillion orange.

No matter the times or season, Longchamp can be counted on for bags that are chic yet dependable, functional and artisanally crafted. In recent years though, it’s also been applying the same formula to a growing ready-to-wear collection. Standouts in Fall/Winter 2022 include reversible quilted nylon separates (shorts, miniskirts, arm warmers) in pop colours that are perfect for that upcoming winter holiday. And a look that’s handy whether one’s travelling or not: comfy, throw-on-and-go maxi dresses still big on the fashion factor.

Think tailored tunics for some beachside elegance or a feminine, knife-pleated style that can be worn as-is or layered over a turtleneck. An unexpectedly edgy number: this flowy, oversized T-shirt dress in camo – a key print in the collection – with a thigh-high slit. Style it to channel normcore cool or dress it up for evenings.
