Crocheting and knitting has become a paean to the slow life for most Gen Zers ever since the pandemic hit. It was during this period too that Madeline Hing, currently a student at the China Academy of Art, turned that interest into a business with her label SSDSLSNS. Flash forward to 2023 and the label is loved by her fans – who include Hanni of NewJeans who wore her knit sleeves this January – for its deconstructed designs, textile manipulation and delicate one-of-a-kind pieces. In this interview video, Lasalle College of the Arts student Muhammad Zikry meets up with Hing to understand more about her craft and how she’s injecting her art background into her work.
