A chance meeting in 2016 set up by top industry fashion stylist Patti Wilson marked the start of a close relationship between Lynn Ban and Michael Halpern. The former: the Singapore-born jewellery designer who dresses an A-list clientele that includes the likes of Rihanna and Beyonce (Queen Bey wore her designs on her September cover of Vogue) with her glam rock designs. The latter: the New York native who became the toast of London Fashion Week with his 2016 graduate fashion show at Central Saint Martins and whose fledging label is a go-to for the flashy, heavily sequinned, Bob Mackie-esque aesthetic.
Flash forward to today and the two have sealed a close relationship that sees Ban providing the baubles for Halpern’s runway shows. Another thing that they share in common? An encyclopedic knowledge of glamorous fashion and women and an insatiable appetite for dressing up. Which makes them the best duo to team up for a game of Taboo, where they have to guess the name on the card without using any of the key words shown.
We caught up with them recently at Club21 Four Seasons where they were presenting their latest F/W ’18 collections and got them to sit for a game date. Suffice to say, they loved the game and even brought our cards home.
