Virgil Abloh’s shocking death on November 28 came two days before the late artistic director for menswear at Louis Vuitton was to stage a sequel to his Spring/Summer 2022 collection during Art Basel in Miami.
Dubbed a “spin-off”, the event is meant to be a follow-up to the main show that was held in June and is part of the French luxury house’s wider strategy to keep its customer base constantly piqued.

According to a report in WWD earlier this month, Abloh had created 10 new looks for the show which will be held on a barge in front of the Miami Marine Stadium. The report also noted how the event is meant to coincide with the opening of the first dedicated men’s boutique in the United States in the Miami Design District.
Naturally, observers are curious as to how Louis Vuitton will honour the legacy of its late artistic director who had ushered a new era at the luxury house since he made his debut for the Spring/Summer 2019 season.
For a start, the brand has renamed the show’s live stream title on YouTube with the poignant message, “Virgil Was Here”.
