Dior will turn the ancient marble-clad Panathenaic Stadium in Athens as the venue for its Cruise 2022 show titled Erratum. The event, happening in the morning of June 18 at 2am Singapore time, will be streamed live from the grounds of the more than 2,300-year-old site which was home to the first modern Olympic Games in 1896. Around 400 guests are said to attend.
Dior’s Greek extravaganza marks a homecoming of sorts for Dior: Monsieur Christian Dior travelled to Athens 70 years ago to shoot an editorial with photographer Jean-Pierre Pedrazzini for his Fall 1951 collection at the Acropolis.
But the link to Greece goes beyond that. Creative director Maria Grazia Chiuri is using the occasion to spotlight the works of local artisans and creatives spanning the world of embroidery, pottery and jewellery, with a week of events reportedly planned through to June 22.
What else you can expect: stunning photos of the collection set against the backdrop of ancient Greek sites like the Acropolis and the Temple of Poseidon in Sounion. Watch this space for more.
