To paraphrase a saying, women who create together, play together, and, yes, stick together. That situation could very well describe what the five women we featured in the May issue of the magazine have in common.
Take for instance the Eng sisters. Elder sister Amanda is a retail guru who left her high-flying career in finance four years ago to co-found lifestyle store Naiise. The brand which is known for its distinctively Singaporean wares is branching out beyond our shores later this year with outposts in Kuala Lumpur and London.
That same go-getter attitude is present in her sister Natalie, who left home for Paris at the age of 17 to hone her craft in desserts, working in the Michelin-starred Restaurant Le Meurice. Today, she is one of Singapore’s Instafamous chefs with a following of more than 24,000 on Instagram, partly thanks to her picture perfect take on modern French confections.
The desire to create is something that brand strategy consultant Rachel Ng, business intelligence specialist Kari Tamura-Chua, and social media manager Anmari Van Nieuwenhove share. Among them, they’ve been involved with arts initiatives like an annual museum event for children, an exhibition to champion the migrant worker cause, and simply to bridge high-brow art with the masses.
