Released last year, Chanel’s Première Édition Originale retains all the elements that set the original from 1987 so uniquely in between the worlds of fashion and watchmaking. There’s the black lacquered dial that’s kept clean save for two slim golden hands; the elegant octagonal face that references the stopper on a bottle of N°5; and its most distinctive feature: the supple leather-laced chain bracelet that echoes the strap of the brand’s iconic quilted handbags, allowing one to wear the watch fitted or loose. A graphic buckle clasp etched with the label’s logo completes the look. Appreciating all of this will only likely beget another question: How many Premières should one own?
