#1: Afra Amba

The Amsterdam-based jewellery label offers seriously edgy pieces, which have been seen on model Jazelle Zanaughtti aka @uglyworldwide on Instagram. Here, you’ll find body chains, arrow-shaped earrings and chokers made of sterling silver or 14-karat gold.

As all items are handmade here, pieces will take between three to five days to ship out. Even better: The brand takes in custom orders. While it’s not received any major press attention yet, we’re calling it first: This is one label to watch. From 20 (S$32)

Brown’s eponymous jewellery brand brims with quirky, eclectic designs that make great conversation starters. Her signature offering: Earrings that are oversized, colourful and geometric, which effectively double up as “wearable art”. Pieces typically come in matte gold or burnished silver finishes, lending them a contemporary and modern feel. Plus, since all the jewellery here is handmade, orders will take at least four to six weeks to be shipped out.

Thus far, the Los Angeles-based brand has enjoyed features from top magazines like W and Vogue, and was worn by models in New York-based label Creatures Of Comfort’s F/W ’17 presentation. From US$49 (S$64)

#3: Catbird

Established in 2004, the New York-based fine jewellery label has garnered fans in the form of Alexa Chung, Kate Bosworth and Taylor Swift. It’s also been credited as the brand that popularised the jewellery stacking trend. Catbird’s designs are dainty, delicate and ultra feminine – which is why it’s no surprise to see that their pieces are great for layering.

All its jewellery is made in their Brooklyn, New York studio, and the key materials used include recycled or fair-trade gold as well as conflict-free stones. Their pieces have also been included in fashion shoots in Interview and W magazines, while others have dubbed it the brand every cool girl in New York wears. From US$16 (S$21)

The eight-year-old New York-based jewellery brand exudes a chic, cool-girl vibe, all thanks to the polished chain-link necklaces and earrings it serves up. The fine arts-trained Lombardi possesses a sharp sculptor’s eye, as evidenced by the sleek, organic shapes she’s created for her line. So far, it’s been featured in publications like Vogue Italia, Vogue UK and Refinery29.

The brand has also adopted an eco-friendly ethos, in using recycled and found materials such as brass and vintage steel to create its designs. And like the other labels featured here, every item is made by hand and only upon ordering, so expect to wait two to 10 business days before your order arrives. From US$40 (S$52)

#5: Wknd LA

What makes Wknd LA’s pieces stand out: An affinity for organic, abstract shapes and asymmetrical designs. Conformity is evidently not something the brand believes in; rather, its pieces manage to strike the perfect balance between being minimalist and statement-making.

Everything here is handmade – in 14-karat gold or sterling silver – and will typically ship within a week. So far, it’s been featured on fashion sites like Who What Wear Daily and Racked, and we’re pretty sure the brand is only going to get bigger. From US$42 (S$55)
