10 Ways To Rock High Jewellery As Seen At The Met Gala

The dress code of this year’s Met Gala ball honouring Rei Kawakubo might have been avant-garde. But save for model Joan Smalls’ lip ring and Anna Cleveland’s ear cuffs by Ana Khouri, the attendees stuck to the standard fare: diamonds, diamonds and more diamonds, with the occasional coloured gemstone thrown in. Which is not necessarily a bad thing because diamonds never go out of style, and certainly go with any dress code.

#1: Jennifer Connelly
Her Louis Vuitton mini dress might be too casual for the event, but those shoulder dusters scream party. #2: Julianne Moore
The actress was in a samba mood. Cue the plumage dress from the Calvin Klein by Appointment line which she matched with Chopard earrings featuring 114.36-carats of yellow and orange sapphire from the brand’s Copacabana Collection. She’s not fooling anyone with these rocks. J.Lo went straight to Harry Winston for actual vintage pieces like a pair of three-row diamond earrings from 1963, and a diamond bracelet from 1959. The total carats of her diamond jewellery (including rings and bracelets)? Over 150 carats. #6: Behati Prinsloo
Mrs Adam Levine donned more than 180 carats of Harry Winston diamonds, including this platinum stunner on her ears which comes with 31.58-carats of diamonds.   #7: Lily James
The English actress put a rebellious touch to her Burberry gown with a pair of ear cuffs by Repossi featuring emerald-cut diamonds. #8: Miranda Kerr
The Aussie model opted for a ’50s-inspired getup with her Oscar De La Renta gown and a sleek chignon. She completed her look with estate-worthy jewellery from Cartier.     #9: Nicki Minaj
The jewellery on the rapper was as eclectic (all-over-the-place, cough, cough) as her getup. The bracelets were from brands like Hearts on Fire and Mattia Cielo, while the rings came from jewellers like Dvani and Le Vian. The diamond and ruby earrings were from Nina Runsdorf.   #10: Gwyneth Paltrow
If that candy floss pink Calvin Klein By Appointment dress is a little underwhelming for the Met Gala, the jewels definitely weren’t. Paltrow donned more than US$2.3 million worth of Harry Winston diamond jewellery. Like this?
