See How Swatch Is Making Its Minimalist Skin Watches More Sophisticated

Packing is not just an art of travelling. Among high-end watches, the ability to pack as many mechanical parts into a watch case is a highly-esteemed know-how. Which explains why slim horological pieces are prized much more than others.

Beyond fine timepieces, though, Swatch takes the cake for making minimalist tickers. Its Skin series boasts some of the slimmest timepieces in the quartz-powered market thanks to its wafer-thin cases and silicone straps, and plain fashionable designs.

For its latest outing, the brand has added 11 new styles and two new case sizes — 37mm and 40-mm — to the popular series. The key is to make every piece more elegant and sophisticated from its predecessors. Which explains why the cases boast a more streamlined profile and a watch crown that’s cut to mimic the facets of a gemstone.

The dials, meanwhile, come in finishes like an elegant sunburst pattern and clean De Stijl-style patterns. Priced between $155 and $188, the Skin series is gearing for another evolution next month: a collaboration with a British artist will be premiering at the Venice Biennale.
