Period dressing, in particular, early 20th century Edwardian chic, takes a luxe turn. The high collars, smocked details on the waists and cuffs and puffy sleeves in buttery soft leather is Fendi’s new romantic. What’s even better: the matching bloomers.

The brand got major PR coverage today. Cookie Lyon donned a Moschino look for the second season premiere of Empire on TV. Here in Milan, it was the show of the day. There was a major traffic jam to get to the venue and the crowds jostled to enter. Then there was that production number. A road construction site stage design, models emerging through swirling brushes in an auto car wash, bubbles blown everywhere, the Linda Evangelista crop wigs the girls donned, the music, the kitsch chic. It was fashion entertainment at its best.

Prada’s the reigning guru of the mash-up: bad taste with good taste; old with new; retro with futuristic; you get the picture. Her latest outing might just be her most eclectic to date. Boxy coats and streamlined skirts, chunky knits and slips, severe dresses and metallic striped coats – all these were out in full force. Topping off the ladylike silhouettes were the showgirl factor of the paillettes and the Christmas-like trinket of a earring, which is bound to be next season’s must-have piece.

It was exactly the kind of irreverence and pop that Massimo Giorgetti is known for at his own MSGM label that showed in his debut at Emilio Pucci. Gone was the high wattage glamour, and in was the youthful, streetstyle-worthy pieces that will bring in a new batch of followers to the house. We already know one social media star who’s lusting over those shoes.
