Okay, guys, enough with the Stan Smiths (the jaunty, perfectly-white tennis sneakers that have long pervaded the streetstyle circuit). Celine’s seminal designer, Phoebe Philo, took her post-runway bow in them after her Fall 2011 show and things naturally blew up from there. Thankfully, fashion week attendees have been breaking free from the ubiquitous sneakers.
Here, some alternative ways to wear white shoes:
White naturally leads us to more clinical associations, and it’s a cinch to go for a futuristic slant when you’re brave enough to don white.
The a-go-go craze of the 1960s saw girls everywhere donning knee-length plastic boots with mini skirts.
Fast forward to 2016 and these might just be the eclectic modern-day versions.
A truly chic way of wearing white is to incorporate it seamlessly into your outfit – make it look natural, instead of having it scream “look at me”. The lady on the left opted for a subtle peep-toe while the one on the right went with evergreen loafers, perfectly nailing that mannish-chic look.
The original everyman sneakers, this is one classic that no one can pick a bone with. Converse’s Chuck Taylors strikes that perfect balance between nonchalance and utility – they look great when new, but even better when worn out.
As these ladies have demonstrated, you really can’t go wrong with them. It’s a very Lou Doillon look as with the girl on the right – laid-back, insouciant and genuinely cool. In other words: They help you ace that French girl look instantly.
