The British invented Mod, and the pop culture icons from the day continue to influence fashion today. Think Biba, Mary Quant, The Beatles et al. So when it comes to authentic Sixties chic, who better than two quintessentially Brit establishments to turn to?
Enter the Victoria & Albert Museum and Clarks. The former is well-known for being the biggest museum of decorative arts and design and for hosting crowd-pleasing fashion exhibitions. The latter, meanwhile, has been in the business of making footwear since1825, and its chukka boots were a hit among the original Mods in the ’60s.
Their latest collaboration, available now at Robinsons department stores, is all about that effortless Jane Birkin-meets-Twiggy style. Naturally, flats like Mary Janes, loafers and slingbacks are the star of the collection. The leather pieces features archival floral prints from Victoria & Albert Museum (it has about half a million in its library) while the shoe designs borrow from silhouettes created by Clarks during the era. Here, we showcase the pieces to own.
