Limited edition makeup from Chanel are some of the most covetable and quickly-snapped-up releases around. Remember, for example, the quirky and inventive Factory 5 collection of 2021 that sold out in very short order? So in case you’ve got FOMO on all things Chanel, you’ll want to pay attention to La Comete, the house’s first limited edition makeup release for 2022.
The collection takes its name from Coco Chanel’s first and only high jewellery collection, Bijoux de Diamants, released in 1932. Its a hugely important bit of history for the brand: stars, comets, and the like have been recurring motifs in Chanel jewellery and brand iconography for many years now.
The limited edition duo of Blush Comete, the powders of which are designed and pressed with a lenticular technique to create an optical illusion that reveals the crossed-C logo in the mirror.
This La Comete collection itself consists of new shades of Rouge Allure Velvet lipsticks as well as two blushes. On the lipstick front, the special star-adorned click case packaging houses eight new shades. These consist of deep, intense variations on reds, pinks and even a surprising dark plum.
Perhaps the most intriguing of the lot are the two special Blush Comete blushers, made with lenticular printing. The blush powders are pressed with two logos – a crossed-C and a star – which are only revealed in the compact mirror’s reflection. It’s a fun trick of optical illusion, and meant to romantically evoke the fleeting glimpse of a shooting star.
