Many things come to mind at the mention of cool sneakers. Ones of the chunky dad variety, bold neon pairs and perhaps even amped up hiking shoes. And though Onitsuka Tiger’s iconic Mexico 66s – as seen on Uma Thurman in Kill Bill: Volume 1 and Bruce Lee in Game of Death – certainly have been indicted into the cool-sneaker hall of fame, it’s latest iteration takes inspiration from activity of a calmer variety.
Taking cues from the martial art of Tai Chi, the Japanese label’s latest drop – which you can now shop at Onitsuka Tiger Takashimaya, Jewel and Suntec City – is sleek and simple. Not a far cry off of its iconic silhouette, “Tai-Chi-Reb” takes shape after shoes worn – you guessed it – during Tai Chi competitions. Fans can expect a familiar feel and design from Onitsuka Tiger’s usual fare, with added benefits that lend to comfort, ease and mobility. Rounded off with ortholite sockliners for ultimate comfort, the Tai-Chi-Reb serves up as a great option for both style and function. The sneaker also comes in five different colourways and is made of smooth leather. An option for all-day wear and perhaps even a little exercise? We think so.
