Bra Tops: The 2000s Style Comeback You Never Thought You Needed

The most directional way of wearing your top? Don it on its own.

by MARGAUX LEVY  /   June 24, 2020

The influence of intimates and lingerie has never been stronger in fashion. From corsetry to brassiere, designers are celebrating the female form in a big way for Spring/Summer 2020. Spotted across the runways from Dior to Givenchy, the bra – be it strapless or otherwise – is making a revival from its heyday in the early aughts when style icons like Gwen Stefani (the No Doubt star, not The Voice judge) and Christina Aguilera was still in her Dirrty phase (remember that?) rocked them.

Sweet dreams are made of this – a satin spaghetti-strapped bra top that can be worn in the sheets to the streets.

Perhaps as an ode to those Gen Y icons – and maybe even a nod to the popularity of mid-riff baring tops among the Zoomer generation – brands are redefining the role of the bra as a top that can be worn solo. The update this time: it is worn in a casual elegant way with flowy maxi skirts or lace skirts, so the result is less *coughs* dirrty and more effortless.
